This morning, the winners of Australia’s Top Tourism Town Awards 2024 were announced in a ceremony held at Parliament House in Canberra. As Chairman Shaun de Bruyn says: “These awards showcase the unique charm of Australia’s regional towns, each offering its own blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and local community pride.”
While South Australia didn’t win any of the major national awards, the state’s local tourism accolades were recognised a few months ago in June. The SA Top Tourism Town Awards honour towns in SA “that offer an amazing visitor experience and a strong commitment to tourism.”
Victor Harbor claimed the title of SA’s 2024 Top Tourism Town, and it’s not hard to see why. The charming coastal town, located just 80 kilometres south of Adelaide, shines with its stunning beaches, Granite Island, and the iconic horse-drawn tram. Victor Harbor isn’t just known for its natural beauty these days – it’s also become a real hub with heaps of great local shops, chic boutiques, and delicious eateries.
“Victor Harbor is somewhere you feel at the mention of its name, a place that stirs a profound personal connection and gently draws you in,” the South Australian Tourism Industry Council says.
“People visit to be immersed. To catch a glimpse of wildlife from shore. To relive childhood summers. What they feel—rejuvenation, adventure, reflection—forever connects them to this wondrously one-of-a-kind place where the hum of community meets the stillness of the sea.”
Victor Harbor was also crowned the winner of the Top Tourism Town and People’s Choice in the 2023 SA Top Tourism Town Awards.
Other SA regional towns that were honoured in this years SA Top Tourism Town Awards were Burra which was awarded with both the 2024 Tiny Tourism Town Award and the People’s Choice Award. While Coober Pedy received the title of 2024 Small Tourism Town.
