The tedium of painting a rich mate’s house is the backdrop for this funny, funky musical mashup.

DJ Baila (Matt Bailey) and hip hop artist Joey D mix it up on their break, first reminiscing about their clubbing adventures the night before, then exploring their boss’ place and finding a fun house of rhythm.

The plot itself is thin, used merely as an excuse to carry their antics to the end. That’s all that’s needed though. These guys entertain thoroughly.

The title of the show comes from both their dexterity and their need to wear flip flops (thongs) in the house to preserve an expensive rug. The rug offers a focal point of tension as it lays dangerously close to the action.

With lots of tongue-in-cheek clowning, the duo breakdance, rap, beatbox, dancefight and hit a mixing desk to funk up some old tunes. They play with hats and harmonicas, showing their skills in dance, music and vocal rhythms. And their timing is impeccable as they catch falling objects and intertwine legs in a memorable dance sequence. Their choreography to a string of sound effects is well worth the ticket price alone.

Flhip Flhop is a refreshing, comical look at clubbing subculture that all ages can enjoy.
