South Australian outback distillery, Flinders Gin, has bolstered credentials as a significant tourism gateway to South Australia’s Flinders Ranges with a $1 million expansion, including a complete upgrade of its cellar door, visitor tasting experience and new distillery.
South Australian Tourism Minister Zoe Bettison joined Giles MP Eddie Hughes and guests to officially open the new-look distillery on Sunday (July 2) and meet “Myrtle”, the newly installed exquisite copper and stainless-steel, Australian-made still.
Flinders Gin co-owners Leah and Alby Trotta have been working on the expansion for the past 12 months and say maintaining their authentic local experience and reputation for rustic luxury was essential to the project.
“We pride ourselves on being a hyperlocal artisan distillery, based in a restored 1890s farrier’s and stables here in Quorn, as well as our community’s location as the gateway to South Australia’s stunning Flinders Ranges,” Master Distiller Alby said.
“When you drink my gin, I want you to be able to taste my love for this region. The name, ingredients and story behind every Flinders Gin product is deeply connected to the environment in which it is made.”

Leah said the expanded Distillery, Tasting Rooms and Cellar Door was now better equipped to accomodate the many tourists who regularly descend on the Flinders Ranges, and the couple had utilised as many regional businesses and suppliers as possible during the work, demonstrating the brand’s commitment to its heritage home base.
“Our distillery and cellar-door expansion at Quorn, after just two years of operations is laying the foundation for an exciting year ahead for us, which will also see Flinders Gin open a unique, floating cellar door at Port Vincent on Yorke Peninsula,” Leah said.
The $40 million Dockside Port Vincent Marina Development will include a 75-seat floating cellar door and Alfresco Pontoon featuring Flinders Gin’s full range, as well as local oysters and grazing platters. The unique tourist attraction is tipped to hit the Summer holiday playground early next year.
Leah said: “Quorn and the southern Flinders will always be our home base but it’s exciting to take our locally inspired gins plus our teas, gin salt and candles to new audiences in such an exciting, regional tourism development.”

Flinders Gin is the only gin distillery in South Australia’s Mid and Far North and its range is stocked in outback pubs from Jamestown to Maree.
The Trottas have taken a leadership role in the state’s remote hospitality industry and have extended the championing of their region by consciously reducing their impact on the local environment. Their zero-waste operation recycles all wastewater, alcohol by-products and botanicals as well as using recyclable glass bottles and packaging products to ensure nature is respected each step of the way.
