Following recent heavy rainfall, the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has issued a flood warning due to significant flooding along inland rivers in the remote outback of South Australia.
BOM has reported that the Cooper Creek at Innamincka is experiencing flooding, causing water levels to rise above the Innamincka causeway and rendering it impassable. This has led to closures and warnings affecting several key roads and tracks across the region.
Local rainfall over the past few days has resulted in the Cooper Creek reaching 2.70 meters at Cullyamurra Waterhole, which is 0.80 meters above the level of the causeway. As a result, floodwaters are expected to disrupt road and track access, particularly at river crossings, potentially impacting travel through the area.
There are road closures across the northern parts of the state due to the heavy rains. The Bureau has indicated that several roads are currently impassable or damaged, with reassessments scheduled for various dates through mid-July. Among the affected routes are:
- Arrabury Road
- Birdsville Inside Track
- Birdsville Track
- Cooper Creek Ferry Crossing Road
- Cordillo Downs Road
- Farina to Mulgaria via Witchelina
- Marree
- Merty Merty
- Moralana Scenic Drive
- Mt Hopeless
- Mungeranie
- Oodnadatta Track
- Rawnsley Park
- Roxby Downs to Bopeechee (Borefield Road)
- Skull Tanks to Pondana Ruins via Kangaroo Well
- Strzelecki Track
- The Knob – Mt Fitton Mine
- Thurlga Station to Kimba

Adding to the weather warnings are strong wind warnings issued for today Wednesday July 10th, across several coastal areas including the Lower West Coast, Central Coast, South Central Coast, Spencer Gulf, Investigator Strait, Upper South East Coast and Lower South Easy Coast.
BOM has also forecasted wind warnings for tomorrow Thursday July 11th affecting Adelaide Metropolitan Waters, Lower West Coast, Central Coast, South Central Coast, Spencer Gulf, Gulf St Vincent, Investigator Strait, Upper South East Coast and Lower South East Coast.
The Bureau has issued safety advice for residents and workers along rivers and streams, urging them to stay informed with the latest weather forecasts and warnings.
