Foodland Supermarkets is the first supermarket network to roll out South Australian owned TABOO Period Products across its 95-stores.
TABOO Period Products, founded by Isobel Marshall and Eloise Hall, is a brand of organic cotton period products, existing to tackle period poverty. It does this through donating 100% of net profits to ‘OneGirl,’ an organisation supporting young girls in Sierra Leone and Uganda through education programs and with essential items including period products. They also address local period poverty by donating period products to those experiencing or at risk of period poverty in Australia.
Foodland Supermarkets CEO, Franklin dos Santos says the TABOO brand, its founders and the brands values and mission resonated with the Foodland team and its community driven approach to business.
“Foodland always looks to support local brands and businesses. It’s at the heart of what we do everyday and it’s what our customers value most about us,” Mr dos Santos says.
“When we saw this incredible South Australian brand having a global impact and delivering opportunities to people across the other side of the world, it only strengthened our desire to support such a product.”
“I hope that our loyal Foodland customers look to support the TABOO products knowing that they are aiding positive change.”
Period poverty is also prevalent in Australia with many people unable to afford or access period products. As such, TABOO co-founders Isobel and Eloise have also implemented a local outreach program, ‘Pad it Forward’, which sees donations of period products on behalf of others in need. To date, they’ve donated more than 1,000 boxes of pads.
Franklin said: “We can all learn something from Isobel and Eloise. It’s not just about the support they are providing but the valuable education and discussion that these products are facilitating.”
“The entire Foodland team is proud to see these products roll out across our shelves and we look forward to playing our part in assisting to end period poverty.”
