For a limited time, Africola’s legendary fried chicken can be found at Cherry Burger

For a limited time only, Cherry will be the only place you’ll be able to order Africola’s famous (and famously off-menu) Fried Chicken as well as a burger twist on their signature Per Peri Chicken.

Get ready to jump in the car and head south so you can order Africola from Noarlunga’s best kept secret, Cherry Burger, as Australia’s hottest restaurant teams up with the SA-focussed burger and shake diner for Cherry Burger’s first birthday.

For a limited time only, Cherry will be the only place you’ll be able to order Africola’s famous (and famously off-menu) Fried Chicken as well as a burger twist on their signature Per Peri Chicken from Saturday 26 September until Saturday 31 October.

Cherry’s focus on South Australian ingredients is a real drawcard for Africola’s executive chef and owner Duncan Welgemoed.

“Cherry does some of the state’s best burgers so to celebrate their first birthday we want to send some of our signature Africola flavours south, like our Peri Peri and our Mpumalanga Fire Sauce,” Duncan says.

“It’s our present for Cherry and everyone south who wants to experience
a taste of Africola closer to home.”

The two special menu items will be worth the trip to enjoy the Grilled Peri Peri Chicken Burger and Roadhouse Fried Chicken & Chips from Cherry.

This Africola collaboration is the first for Cherry, a retro burger joint that simply serves quality burgers, shakes and fries made with locally-sourced ingredients from its terrazzo-tabled, red vinyl-boothed restaurant at
Colonnades in Noarlunga.

The Grilled Peri Peri Chicken Burger is a one-off item served in a fluffy square-pie tin-baked milk bun with Africola’s Peri Peri Mayonnaise and pickles and is based on Africola’s signature dish: its world-famous Peri Peri Chicken.

The Roadhouse Fried Chicken & Chips isn’t your usual suburban corner chicken and chips.

The skin-on Russet Burbank shoestring fries are finished with chicken-skin Peri Peri salt while the Fried Chicken is brined overnight and is the closest
thing you’ll get to Belles Hot Chicken in Adelaide.

This is a rare chance to order Africola’s Fried Chicken again, which was Africola’s most popular takeaway menu during Covid.

“We can’t fit this on our kitchen menu but we get requests to put it back on all the time,” Duncan says.

“One of the reasons we are doing this is so people can enjoy our Fried Chicken again. We can’t wait to serve it in an awesome environment like Cherry.”

“We’re super excited to be approaching our one-year anniversary, and we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate than by inviting some Africola spice into the Cherry kitchen,” says Cherry manager Craig Fox.

“We can’t wait to share these new menu items with our Cherry regulars, as well as fans of Duncan’s incredible Fried Chicken!”

Keep your eyes out for Duncan’s upcoming book Africola – to be released through Murdoch Books on November 3 – that will have a recipe for Africola’s Fried Chicken.

Until then, Cherry Burger will be the only place to experience Africola’s Fried Chicken and the Grilled Peri Peri Chicken Burger.

Cherry Burger is open 7 days a week, 11am-8pm at Colonnades, Noarlunga.
