It’s hard to name an artist who had a greater impact on music in the 90s than Jeff Buckley. His tragically short career and celebrated full-length album Grace have become memorialised around the world since his death in 1997. As a result, Buckley enthusiasts have been flooding to tribute shows ever since, eager to experience his hauntingly beautiful music and honour his legacy.
One such show is coming to Adelaide this January. Fans of Jeff Buckley can look forward to “Lilac Wine: An Evening With Jeff Buckley”, a tribute show presented by Shaun Holton and friends at The Gov on January 11th.
Hosted by one of Adelaide’s premier live music venues, Lilac Wine promises an extraordinary evening capturing the essence of one of music’s most iconic voices.
Playing the part of Buckley is Shaun Holton, a versatile Adelaide musician who’s been a prominent figure in the music scene since beginning his journey as a teenager, working as a singer, guitarist, composer and producer.
Some readers may recognise him from Season 10 of The Voice Australia, which aired in 2021. He was selected to join Kieth Urban’s team during the blind auditions for his rendition of “Best of You” by Foo Fighters. Shaun was later eliminated during The Cut.
He now sings for Australian prog-rockers Southern Empire, and released a solo debut album in 2021.
Joining Shaun is an ensemble of accomplished musicians bringing their exceptional talents to the stage. His band features Stuart James Day (FAB, Zepp Boys, and more), Shannon Brinsley, Chris Lau (Roger the Band, Zombie Eaters), Luke Whelan (Mothdust, Zombie Eaters), and Cat Louise (Solar Soma, Zombie Eaters).
Led by Holton’s soul-stirring vocals, the band are intent on delivering electrifying renditions of Jeff Buckley’s most cherished songs, from “Grace” to “Hallelujah,” in an intimate and immersive performance that honours his legacy with unparalleled passion and authenticity.
And to kick off the evening, Jessica Luxx will be opening up the performance with her signature folk pop sounds.
