Marriage equality in Australia is officially here! And to celebrate, Ben & Jerry’s, long-time champion of marriage equality is throwing a moo-numental ice cream-filled party across Australia for all Aussies to attend!
To top it off, the company will also recommence selling two scoops of the same ice cream flavour in its Scoop Shops nationwide, after introducing a ban on their sale earlier this year in a show of support for The Equality Campaign.
Today, Monday 11 December, Ben & Jerry’s is hosting a one-off Free Cone Night across the country so all Australians have the opportunity to join the festivities! Aussies are invited to visit a Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Store (excluding Movie World) and pick themselves up a free cone of the brand’s famous, super premium ice cream to mark the historic occasion.
Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Night celebration culminates four years of the brand’s avid campaigning for marriage equality in Australia, which kicked off in 2013, with a ‘Say I Dough’ campaign and included the launch of an ‘I dough, I dough’ flavour.
In addition to its ‘two scoop ban’ earlier this year, the ice cream maker created its own postal system across its Scoop Shops which enabled ice cream lovers and marriage equality supporters to directly contact their local MPs and encourage them to fight for marriage equality.
Bert Naber, Ben & Jerry’s Australia, said: “What a momentous achievement! Ben & Jerry’s has a long history of fighting for social justice issues including LGBTIQ rights and marriage equality. It is grounded in our company’s core values and an unshakable belief that everyone deserves full and equal civil rights.”
“We are thrilled that Australia has legalised marriage equality. Now, we want to celebrate and we can’t think of a better way than with free ice cream!”
Australians can join the celebrations and enjoy their fill of the world’s chunkiest and swirliest ice cream at any Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Store at Hoyts Norwood between 5.30pm-9.30pm.
