If you’re looking for a fun event this month that has something for literally everyone in the family (yep, even your four-legged pooch), the annual Prospect Spring Fair is making its return this October and promises a delightful day of interactive activities, delicious food and live entertainment.
Held at Broadview Oval/Yarnta Tutu Yarta on Saturday, 28th October, from 10 am to 3 pm, this free event not only features food trucks, market stalls and fun-filled entertainment for the kids but one of the main highlights is the much anticipated Glam Adelaide Daschund Mini Dash—where 40 sausage dogs will be dashing for the title of ‘Fastest Dachshund in the North.’
But besides the Daschund race, there’ll be a heap going on throughout the day for young and old to enjoy!
Setting the tone for the event will be talented musical acts like Nathan May, Stormhorse, Lucky Seven, and Jambu Loco, who will all be performing live, and there’ll be a variety of food on offer, including wood-fired pizza from Pizze in Giro, Maxines Baked Potatoes and a variety of authentic cuisines such as Indian, Moroccan, Italian and American-style loaded grilled cheese sandwiches (ummm, YUM!).
Fancy something a bit sweeter? Greek favourites Loukamades and Italian treats from The Cannoli Box Co. will be serving up the desserts along with ice cream and sorbet from Natura’s Ice Creams, Macarons at Midnight and fruit-based slushies, smoothies and crushes from Boost Mobeel and Slush Happy.
Pop-up licensed bars will be serving up the bevvies, with craft beers on tap from Brewboys Brewery, along with Heaps Good Spirits and Moonshine Distillery offering gin tasting and mixers.
There’ll also be plenty of fun for the kids—from amusement rides, such as the popular Super Slide and Tea Cups, some sideshow games like laughing clowns and basketball, or free kids activities that include caricature drawings, henna body art and a mini golf course—there’ll be a lot to keep them entertained.
Interested in a more hands-on experience? Get up close and personal at the petting zoo, where you can feed and pet the animals, leave a splash of colour on the interactive community mural led by well-known Adelaide artist Leah Grant, or join in the Circus Plai Space for a session of poi, hula hooping, or juggling. Adults can get in on the fun, too, with giant lawn games, including an epic giant Jenga, corn hole toss, quoits and Connect 4.
If a bit of retail therapy is more your thang, the Prospect Spring Fair will boast over 50 market stalls featuring hand-made crafts from places like Artisans of Prospect, Aybar Bazaar and ceramics from Homethrown by Jen, jewellery from Summer Haze, Raw Silver Design and Oddity Mai, and doggy products from The Pooch Tags, along with a bunch of other unique homewares, fashion and goodies.
For those with canine companions, the Flyball Arena will host a range of activities, with dog breeds teaming up for races filled with jumps and obstacles in collaboration with Para District Obedience Dog Club and Dover Gardens Dog Club. Local community groups, sporting clubs, and even the SA Metropolitan Fire Service will also be on hand throughout the fair, with the fireys bringing one of their big red fire trucks for wannabe firefighters to explore and educate on fire safety.
The October Prospect Spring Fair this season promises to bring the fun and community spirit to the City of Prospect.
