This June long weekend, the much-loved Coastal Sounds festival is returning to Adelaide’s coastline, bringing with it a free celebration of live music, art, and dance.
From humble beginnings in Henley Beach, this year the winter festival will be bigger than ever. On Monday, June 9th, a 13-kilometre strip of coast along Adelaide’s stunning western beaches will be transformed for the event. From West Beach and Henley Beach to Grange, Semaphore Park, and Semaphore, the whole coast will come alive with activations and events.
This collaboration between the City of Charles Sturt and the City of Port Adelaide Enfield features a family-friendly program of 26 performances, experiences, and workshops from talented South Australian artists across 12 unique locations.
What sets the festival apart is that, unlike what you might expect, there are no stages or fences, everything is on ground level. This open-air setup makes sure you can enjoy everything up close in a relaxed way. Whether it’s music displays, dance performances, or art exhibits, while you stroll down the coast, you can easily take everything in.

City of Charles Sturt Mayor Angela Evans said, “With a free, accessible and family-friendly event, Coastal Sounds brings a vibrant wave of energy to our western beaches, offering surprising and delightful experiences for all ages.
“As a diverse City, we’re proud to present an incredible lineup of South Australian artists representing different cultures, genres, and stages of their careers – from high-profile acts to emerging young talents still in high school, each bringing something unique to the day.
“There’s truly something for everyone. You can settle in with a picnic with friends to enjoy chilled live music, get active and join a swing, Indian, or Brazilian dance workshop, or even follow a lively New Orleans-style jazz parade along the coastal walkway.”
This is such a unique coastal event, offering experiences rarely seen elsewhere. From live cello and harp performances and giant beach mandala creations to recycled musical instrument workshops for kids and even a baby dinosaur petting zoo, there really is something for everyone.
