Once again, Adelaide Metro has announced free travel on New Year’s Eve, perfect for catching all the festivities and leaving the car at home.
All buses, trains and trams will be free from 5pm Tuesday, December 31st 2024 to 6am Wednesday, January 1st 2025. Regular services and fares will resume after 6am on Wednesday, January 1st.
The initiative will allow thousands of South Australians to access entertainment across the state without having to tap on, whether it’s fireworks by the shore or celebrations in the city.
Fans heading into the Big Bash League match at Adelaide Oval can enjoy free travel from 3pm on New Year’s Eve with a match-day ticket. The game will see the Adelaide Strikers take on the Perth Scorchers to hit 2024 for six and take the stadium into the new year. This year, a crowd of 50 thousand is expected for the hugely popular annual match.
Take note that some services, particularly in Glenelg and the CBD will experience disruptions or altered timetables. Check your route with Adelaide Metro before travelling.
You will be able to contact Adelaide Metro on the night by calling 1300 311 108 which will take calls all the way from 7am December 31st to 8pm January 1st.
Premier Peter Malinauskas said, “New Year’s Eve should be a celebration to remember for all the right reasons. We want to make sure South Australians enjoy themselves and get home safely.”
“Whether you’re heading to the beach, the city, or attending the Big Bash match at Adelaide Oval, public transport is the convenient, easy and free option for you to travel to any celebration.”
Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Tom Koutsantonis said, “This has become a popular annual initiative, commuters and their loved ones not having to worry about how they’ll be getting home – and just focussing on enjoying the night.”
