Free Parking And Shuttles At Adelaide Central Market This Christmas

Make Christmas food shopping at breeze the Adelaide Central Markets

The Adelaide Central Market is gearing up for what is hoped to be one of the best Christmas trading periods in its 147-year history. Almost one million people are expected to visit the Market in December, with more than 500,000 shoppers anticipated to walk through the Market’s doors in the last two weeks of Christmas trade and more than 110,000 shoppers in the final two days before Christmas.

Adelaide Central Market Authority General Manager Aaron Brumby said this year the Market was renewing its focus on providing convenient services and ways to improve the customer experience for a stress-free Christmas.

“We understand that Christmas can be a very busy time of year and we want to ease the ‘festive frazzle’ for our customers,” Mr Brumby said. In the lead up to Christmas, the Market will team up with local ecofriendly transport business EcoCaddy to provide a free shopping shuttle service for time-poor city workers with free rides back to the office.

Shuttles will depart every 15 minutes between 11am and 2pm on Friday, 16 December, Tuesday, 20 December, and Wednesday, 21 December. “A significant number of Market shoppers walk to the Market from their workplaces and we thought what better way to conveniently shop for your Christmas goodies than with a free ride back to work,” Mr Brumby said.

“And for those shoppers coming by car, the Market will offer first hour free parking during festive trading hours.” An old fashioned porter service will also be available to enhance customer convenience and help shoppers with heavy loads of Christmas goodies. Porters will be lend a helping hand during peak trading from 11am to 2pm from Tuesday, 21 December, until Friday, 23 December, and 7am to 11am on Christmas Eve, Saturday 24 December.

The Adelaide Central Market’s huge range of festive fare is also back, including local organic cherries from Central Organics, Lucia’s famous homemade Christmas puddings, house smoked ham from O’Connell Meats, South Australian prawns from Samtass Seafood and traditional fruit cake from Bakers Tray.

From Tuesday 20 December to Thursday 22 December, the Market will be open from 7am until 5.30pm, and from 6am on Friday, 23 December and Christmas Eve on Saturday, 24 December.
