Make a splash and cool off at the Marion Outdoor Pool on Sunday mornings with free access to the pool’s waterslides between 10am and 12pm, just in time for the warmer weekends.
The pool boasts two big water slides which plunge from an impressive 10-meter platform: The ‘Twist Slide’ and ‘Speed Slide,’ to take your Sunday fun to new heights.
If you haven’t experienced these slides yet, here’s what you’re up for:
The Twist Slide: This green, white, and blue slide starts with a 15m enclosed tunnel showcasing radiant translucent colour bands. As you zoom down, the slide opens up to an anti-clockwise downward spiral offering an open-air experience until you end with a jubilant splash.
The Speed Slide: For adrenaline junkies, the yellow Speed Slide promises a heart-pounding experience. Imagine dropping down 10m in what feels like a free-fall, gaining momentum, and making a grand, splashy entrance at the end.
Parents, take note: Kids aged two and above under 120cms can join in the Twist Slide fun with an accompanying adult.
To get the most out of your slide experience, here are some tips:
Twist Slide:
- Grab a mat at the staircase’s base – it ensures a smoother and speedier ride.
- Position your body weight forward; try and reach your toes or sit with feet close in and knees out wide.
- Refrain from excessive twisting; it’ll slow you down.
- Going too fast? Simply sit upright to control your speed.
- Parents, always hold onto your little ones to avoid a bumpy landing.
Speed Slide:
- Lay down, resting on your feet and shoulder blades.
- Raise your bottom off the slide.
- Cross your arms over your chest and keep your legs straight, crossing your feet.
- Your feet will take the impact of the water in the chute at the end.
To make your day even more delightful, you can bring along a picnic to enjoy. Maybe some soft drinks to quench that post-slide thirst? Keep in mind that alcohol isn’t permitted, maintaining a family-friendly environment.
If a picnic isn’t your style, the kiosk offers a variety of treats for you to purchase at your leisure. Ranging from toasted sandwiches, hot dogs, and burgers to fries and ice creams, there’s something for everyone. Plus, BBQ facilities and drinking fountains are available for use.
To add to the fun, the Marion Outdoor Pool recently underwent a major revamp, investing significant efforts to evolve it into the largest outdoor water park in Southern Adelaide. Some of the new features include a Splash Park with four water slides, 600-litre tipping bucket, playful water cannons, a 59sqm splash pad, water jets, and interactive features.
The Marion Outdoor Pool is open on weekdays from 6am-8pm, Saturday 7am-6pm, Sunday 8am-6pm and public holidays from 11am-5pm. While the slides are free on Sundays, general admission fees to the pool apply. The best part? No bookings are needed- just dive right in.
