While Paris may feel far away, Bistro Francais brings fine French cuisine to the Hyde Park locale.
Softly opening its doors on King William Road last week, the new restaurant has opened in the former Fifty-Six One site, with owner and manager Nazzaerno Falaschetti bringing the casual, laid back nature of Europe to the bustling street.
The dishes served are French classics, intertwining the flavours synonymous with the country throughout meals that’s accessible to all. Nazzaerno says when choosing what cuisine to star on the menu, Head Chef and French national Fabien Streit decided to steer away from reserving French cuisine for fancy nights’ out and fine-dining institutions.
Shuck escargot, with garlic and parsley, just like the Parisian do and indulge in classic French staples, including Boeuf Bourguignon – a slowly braised beef cheek in red wine sauce – Salade Niçoise and Ratatouille.
“The menu is based upon what the chef grew up on and his favourite dishes. So it’s a cosy, familiar vibe,” Nazzaerno says.
Nazzaerno and Fabien met and worked at the former Cliché, sharing their passion for hospitality, great service and great food. Now, they’ve taken the leap to bring their passion to the Adelaidians.
“We became best friends and started dreaming about opening something together…and then we did it,” he says.
“It’s something I love doing, interacting with customers, chatting with and helping them understand why we’re doing this and what we’re doing.”
“It’s a different point of view the way we do it in Europe…[hospitality] is something you do because it’s your passion…for us, it’s our passion, and we try and give this passion back to customers.”

Settle into the forest green bench and sip on the fine wine deriving from some of the world’s best wine regions like Burgundy and Bordeaux. The back bar is filled with incredible bottles of wine heralding from France and other French varieties grown here in SA.
The timber oak tables, low hanging pendant lights Nazzaerno scored at a vintage shop, and classic paintings hanging on the wall create a place with a casual yet timeless fit-out. The design, fit-out and construction were largely done by Nazzaerno also – pouring his drive for opening his restaurant into the bones of the former dessert shop.
While Bistro Francais has just opened its doors to the public, Nazzaerno has big dreams for the Hyde Park restaurant. From the food to the staff, the vibe and the wine, he wants the eatery to garner a reputation that sees it become a favourite amongst Adelaidean crowds.
“I want people to come to Bistro Francais because it’s cool because it’s got a good vibe, good people. For me, that’s success,” he says.
Find Bistro Francais at 144a King William Road, Hyde Park SA 5041. The restaurant is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 11:30am to 3pm for lunch and 5:30pm to 9:30pm for dinner.
