Fresh new direction for Tasting Australia

SimonBryant-MaggieBeerTasting Australia 2014 will be shaped by a bold new creative team who are passionate about South Australian produce and growing this premier event.

Minister for Tourism Leon Bignell today announced renowned local chef Simon Bryant and Adelaide-based wine expert Paul Henry would drive Tasting Australia’s creative direction, with food icon Maggie Beer joining as Patron of the event.

“We are delighted to have Maggie, Simon and Paul on board as Tasting Australia enters an exciting period of revitalisation,” Mr Bignell said.

“Their expertise, energy and passion for consuming and sharing food and wine – and South Australia – will be the perfect combination to drive Tasting Australia to greater heights.

“We could not be happier with the team that we’ve put together – all have played a part in developing South Australia’s food and wine industry and I’m confident their combined talents will take the event in an exciting new direction.”

Tasting Australia was launched in 1997 and has become one of the nation’s most influential and popular culinary festivals.

Simon Bryant said he was looking forward to breaking new ground with the 2014 event.

“Tasting Australia is the original food and wine festival in Australia. We’re taking it back to its roots – unearthing what has worked in the past and gathering as many ideas as we can to grow a new event. Nothing will be out of the question. The event is not about personalities, it’s about being driven by produce and authenticity.”

Paul Henry said that Tasting Australia is more than a food and wine event; it’s an eating and drinking event.

“Tasting Australia is all about participating. It’s about appreciating what South Australia has to offer. I’m excited about working with Simon and Maggie and encouraging as many people as possible to contribute their ideas.”

Maggie Beer said she was pleased to be involved in an event that appealed to locals and visitors alike.

“Some marvellous things happened in the past with Tasting Australia and it’s time for a different journey now. Simon and Paul’s shared vision excites – it all begins with the produce and we can certainly do that well!”

Tasting Australia will be held in Autumn 2014, with final dates to be confirmed.
