Fresh take on regional retail as city-style lifestyle precinct opens in Barossa

Barossa Co-op has unveiled its new lifestyle precinct bringing together some big names in fashion and homewares.

The highly anticipated Barossa Lifestyle precinct has officially opened in Nuriootpa, marking the completion of an eight-month transformation by the Barossa Co-op.

Now open, the space sees the official unveiling of Barossa Betta, The Design Studio Selection Centre, Barossa Toyworld, and Barossa Lifestyle which houses the likes of Country Road, Witchery, Mimco, R.M. Williams, ORTC, Weber and Yeti.

The opening marks the arrival of a lifestyle retail concept not typically found in regional centres, bringing a city-style shopping experience to the Barossa. The project transforms the Barossa Co-op space into a department-style store bringing together the region with its community-owned approach.

Located at 21 Murray Street, the refurbished building was formally opened this month by Member for Schubert, Ashton Hurn MP.

Following the opening, Barossa Co-op CEO Cathy Main said, “We are thrilled to see our plan to offer the Barossa community a freshly renovated space offering a ‘house of brands’ under the one roof… From toys for kids’ birthdays, Black Friday offers, Christmas shopping to the latest in menswear, womenswear, and homewares, to buying a full range of electrical items and other home needs in Barossa Betta.”

“The relocated Design Studio is the perfect complement to Barossa Betta offering customers and members a modern design ‘selection centre’ for kitchen, laundry, and bathroom renovations,” Main continued.

“We are delighted that the community has supported Barossa Co-op as it worked through this important redevelopment giving members and the broader community a revitalised shopping experience.”

The grand opening event included product demonstrations, giveaways, competitions, and a Lego ‘Make and Take’ activity for children. Local business owner and former MasterChef contestant Tracy Collins hosted the day. She was joined by Claire Woods of Carême Pastry and Lynda Tucker of Maggie Beer’s Farm Shop, who cooked up a storm in the new Barossa Betta Demonstration Kitchen.

Simon Newbold, Chair of the Barossa Co-op Board, said, “As a community owned business, celebrating the International Year of Co-operatives, Barossa Co-op has a responsibility to the community to make sure the best retail experiences are offered to members, whether it’s in a physical environment or online.”

Barossa Co-op is South Australia’s largest and longest-standing retail co-operative. Established in 1944, it now owns and operates nine retail businesses in and around Barossa Central. It is owned by more than 21,000 members, most of whom are local to the region.
