When the land on which the stunning Carrick Hill was built was gifted to Ursula Barr-Smith by her father back in the early 1930s, she revelled in her love of entertaining by throwing lavish parties in the gardens that she spent so much time caring for.
As an ode to the rich history of the property and Ursula’s fondness of garden get-togethers, Ursula’s Gin Bar was created offering the people of today a chance to unwind from the working week with the ultimate knock off drinks.
Overlooking the city, the stunning gardens at Carrick Hill open as Ursula’s Gin Bar every Friday night for the summer months and with growing popularity year after year, 2022 is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever.
Settle in the amongst the elm trees and watch as the sun sets behind the horizon with a gin in your hand and a smile on your face, soaking up the beauty of South Australian summer.
If gin isn’t your thing, don’t be deterred, with Carrick Hill offering its full wine list alongside an impressive cocktail menu and local and imported beers.
Picnic platters provided by Carrick Hill’s suppliers, Tabel Catering, start from $30pp and offer up the perfect selection of nibbles for alfresco dining in the summer. Think arancini, cured meats, fresh fruit and of course cheese.
Amy Hage from Tabel Catering is just as excited for Ursula’s to reopen as we are. “We do it every year and it’s always so popular,” she says. “It’s really beautiful to just sit among the gardens and enjoy the estate.”
As we know, the weather sometimes has a mind of its own, but never fear, if Mother Nature doesn’t want to play nice, the evening’s occasion will be moved inside the marquee, making it more of a cosy occurrence but still just as beautiful.
