Singapore’s leading magic production company, Theatre of Wonder, will captivate Adelaide with the Australian premiere of A Wonderful World of AI at this year’s Fringe. This innovative show, featuring Asia’s top iPad Illusionist, will be staged on the 23rd, 24th, and 25th February for two showings each night at the Executive Lounge, Stamford Adelaide Plaza.
Directed and performed by the Singapore-based artist and magician Alexander Yuen, known for his rare blend of magic and technology, the show aims to redefine the way you see magic. Blending technology, theatre, and masterful sleight of hand, Yuen reinvents the art for the digital age, creating illusions that captivate and astound. Expect a visually stunning experience that pushes the boundaries of conventional magic shows. Yuen uses a total of six synchronised iPads to execute complex illusions that blur the lines between the digital and the real world.
Armed with a Master’s in Psychology from the prestigious National University of Singapore, he transforms each performance into an immersive theatrical experience, weaving psychology into his craft to deepen audience engagement.
With a polished style that resonates with the sophisticated and culturally attuned, Yuen has become the go-to illusionist for luxury brands like Hermès, Bulgari, and Rolls-Royce. His cutting-edge approach to magic has also mesmerised audiences at tech giants such as Apple, Meta, Google, and Netflix, cementing his reputation as a pioneer of modern illusion.
“Technology permeates our daily lives and it is so difficult to disentangle the real world from the digital world. By combining technology with magic to enhance visuals and create an immersive experience, I raise magic to a modern level where it is relatable to the audiences,” Yuen explained. You can check out the show’s trailer below.
The performance showcases Yuen’s technological prowess and invites the audience to perceive the world with wonder and amazement, akin to a child’s perspective. Yuen draws upon his own childhood perceptions and experiences to craft illusions that resonate deeply and evoke a sense of nostalgia and disbelief.
Originally debuted in Saudi Arabia, the show received high acclaim and later went on to impress audiences at the Esplanade, a prestigious arts venue in Singapore. Yuen’s reputation precedes him, having performed across various countries including Australia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, and Japan, which has enriched his act with a diverse global influence.
Audience member Sabina Sayers commented on Yuen’s performance: “His combination of digital wizardry and traditional sleight-of-hand left our guests completely amazed and entertained. The way he seamlessly integrated technology into his act was nothing short of mind-blowing – it was modern, innovative, and truly unique.”
