Smashing expectations one soaring harmony at a time, six women take on the world’s most famous male musicians and reinvent them as surprising, bawdy, hilarious cabaret. Masculinity mixed up with stellar female vocals, big hair, rosy cheeks and a whole lot of ridiculous dancing is delivered in Lady Sings It Better.
Recently returned from a critically acclaimed season at the Edinburgh Fringe, Lady Sings it Better regularly entertain sold-out crowds in Sydney. They sold out their 2011 Adelaide Fringe run and were named ArtsHub’s Best Emerging Company 2012, both Critic’s and People’s Choice.
This is Michael Jackson, Nine Inch Nails, Queen, Leonard Cohen, Elvis Presley, Usher and AC/DC as you’ve never heard them before. With dry wit and high energy, the Ladies romp through popular culture, inviting audiences to rediscover well-known tunes and consider how a lyric can change meaning when sung in a female voice.
“We both celebrate and poke fun at pop culture”, said Director Maeve Marsden. “First and foremost, our show is about the music, discovering meanings in songs then turning them upside down, exploring melody and genre. But it’s also about having a hell of a lot of fun!”
“Now that we’ve conquered Edinburgh, we can’t wait to come back to Adelaide, where it all began!”
With complex 6-part harmony, the Ladies deliver ambitious and unexpected arrangements, accompanied by a highly skilled 3-piece band.
