If you like your Fringe shows loud, wild and slightly unhinged, Lassù is ready to pull you in. Part circus spectacular, part cheeky adults-only comedy, this cosmic cabaret is debuting at the 2026 Adelaide Fringe, arriving with all the fun you’d expect from the crew behind Infamous.
Leading the show is seventh-generation circus performer Merrik Ashton, whose family legacy with Circus Joseph Ashton is present in every daring moment on stage. Teaming up with internationally acclaimed creative director Mitchell Woodcock, Lassù is a bold new collaboration that combines old-school circus with contemporary choreography and design.
The story follows Rusty, a rogue hero navigating a post-explosion universe on a mission to recover the mythical golden lasso. It’s a loose narrative framework, but one that gives the show permission to go absolutely anywhere.
“Lassù centres on the main character Rusty, who is on a mission to find the golden lasso after a cosmic explosion,” shared Merrik. “With Mitchell, we were able to bring something out of this world to life.
“I approached Mitchell, whose work as choreographer and creative director for events is the best in the business, and it all happened very quickly.”
Mitchell has worked with Kylie Minogue, Rita Ora and Meghan Trainor, and he even directed a FIFA World Cup Closing Ceremony. His ability to create dynamic, large-scale spectacle shines throughout Lassù, with his choreography background and leadership of Newground Collective being top-notch.
Lassù includes acts that push the limits of what audiences expect, even at Fringe. Knife throwing, crossbow stunts, aerial acrobatics and a jaw-dropping sequence featuring a performer suspended above the audience by her own hair all feature in the show.
Running for the full Fringe season from Thursday, February 19th to Sunday, March 22nd, Lassù takes over its own bespoke venue, the Lassù Chapiteau at Light Square, adding another must-visit hub to the city’s Fringe map.
