Beloved Estonian clown duo Piip and Tuut are officially bringing their joyful chaos Down Under for the very first time, with the Australian premiere of Piip and Tuut at Concert, becoming the first Estonian theatre act to take the stage at Adelaide Fringe.
The duo of actors Haide Männamäe and Toomas Tross formed the Piip and Tuut Theatre in 1998 and have since become cultural icons in Estonia. In 2010, they established their own venue, the Piip and Tuut Playhouse in Tallinn, confirming their status as pioneers of contemporary clown theatre in their home country.
Across more than two decades, they’ve created an expansive repertoire that includes stage productions, television series and digital content, all while maintaining the playful, visual storytelling style that makes their work universally accessible. There’s no language barrier, just pure, generational laughter.
Performing at Fool’s Paradise in Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga, the internationally acclaimed pair arrive directly from Tallinn with a strong reputation across Europe, North America, the Middle East and Asia.
In Piip and Tuut at Concert, the mischievous clowns turn what should be a refined evening of music into a brilliantly orchestrated disaster. The premise is simply that they’ve arrived at a concert hall as a janitors ready to clean. But, things unravel almost immediately, and what follows is 55 minutes of fast-paced clown comedy packed with slapstick, physical theatre, live music, singing and surprising acrobatic moments.
Their arrival at the Adelaide Fringe also follows renewed international attention thanks to a recently released documentary exploring their creative partnership, family life and enduring legacy in performance. Now, at a Fringe known for pushing boundaries and celebrating global talent, Piip and Tuut at Concert feels like the perfect fit, and a reminder that sometimes the biggest laughs come without a single word.
