After bringing 5 star improvised comedy to the Edinburgh and Adelaide Fringe Festivals, Tenuous Link Productions has turned their attention to a show for kids. In Storytime Dance Party, children will be invited to help create the show’s main character by choosing their costume and providing suggestions that will shape the the made-up-on-the-spot show’s progression.
Crazy costumes and hilarious characters will combine to create a unique adventure that will captivate your children, with an all-out dance party ending the show. Perfect for children aged 4 to 8, it will surprise and delight.
“I have a 4-year-old daughter, and she loved watching us prepare for our shows”, said co-producer Paul Gordon. “When she asked why we didn’t have a show she and her friends could go to, we realised what a great opportunity it would be.”
“Kids have the most incredible imaginations”, added co-producer Claire Bottrall. “We wanted to make sure we had a show that could showcase their ideas in an interactive way”.
With a new adventure each time, you’ll never know what to expect, other than lots and lots of fun: when the show starts, the cast will ask the audience for ideas for places, objects, jobs, activities and other suggestions.
“We also get the children up and part of the show, becoming part of the scenery. We want them to be engaged the whole time.”
Tenuous Link Productions is an Adelaide based creative production company specialising in long-form improvised comedy, and drawing their casts from Adelaide’s best improv troupes. Storytime Dance Party is their show made especially for kids, road tested on the most discerning of 4-year-old’s.
“There are so many shows to choose from this Fringe, so we wanted to provide something unique, where kids can see their imaginations come to life, and be part of the show”, said Paul. “Whether they just want to sit and watch, or get up the front and dance the afternoon away, there is something for everyone.”
“We are incredibly fortunate to be able to perform at both the Lockleys Community Centre, as well as the Fringe Hub that is Gluttony”, said Claire.
Whilst excited about their first ever children’s show, Tenuous Link is not neglecting their older fan base, with another brand new show for adults, “Dropped In It: Crime Scene Improvisation” also premiering this year.
“It’s the same incredible improvised comedy, with a CSI spin” explained Paul. “We have brilliant guest stars, and an exceptional cast.”
