FRINGE: Gospo Collective is the vocal powerhouse blending gospel, pop and soul

Gospo Collective is redefining choral music in Australia, blending gospel, pop, and soul into an electrifying vocal experience that captivates audiences and inspires future generations.

Gospo Collective isn’t just a choir—it’s an unstoppable group of vocal talent that fuses African rhythms with Western harmonies, hip-hop with hymns, and gospel with pop, creating a one-of-a-kind experience at this year’s Adelaide Fringe.

Sip and Saaaaang is their newest show, where you can step into an interactive space of music and connection with the Gospo Collective (Jackson vs Jackson and Whitney) as they flip the score. This is more than just a show—it’s a gathering of voices and energy, and you’re invited to join in!

Experience a powerful, feel-good celebration of legendary hits infused with gospel harmonies where the audience becomes the choir.

Under the leadership of Charmaine Jones, the powerhouse ensemble takes audiences on an emotional and musical journey, combining sacred and secular music. From the soulful depths of gospel legends like Kirk Franklin and Aretha Franklin to the timeless energy of Sting, Justin Timberlake, The Beatles, their performances blend genres, uniting people through the shared language of music.

“There is no discrimination between sacred and secular tunes. Music is the food of life, and we aim to offer a full-tasting plate to our listeners,” shared Charmaine.

Jones is a visionary director, conductor, and arranger, who brings a lifelong passion for music and education to every Gospo performance. Her carefully crafted arrangements create stunning vocal orchestrations, ensuring that each show is not just heard but felt.

Gospo Collective has collaborated with some of Australia’s biggest stars, including Hugh Sheridan, Archie Roach, Rob Mills, Bobby Fox, Kate Ceberano, Marcia Hines, and Casey Donovan—all of whom have praised the group’s electrifying energy and vocal prowess. Their standout productions have wowed audiences at the Adelaide Fringe Festival and beyond, with record-breaking shows like Jackson vs. Jackson ran in 2018, 2019, and 2021, a thrilling tribute to Michael and Janet Jackson, even earning a People’s Choice Award. Whitney – The Greatest Love of All showed in 2023 and 2024 as a heartfelt celebration of Whitney Houston’s greatest hits and life story.

Critics have raved about Gospo Collective’s performances, with the Glam Adelaide arts team rating Jones’ show five stars, saying “Jones’ show is a must-see if you enjoy live music and powerhouse performances.”

Looking ahead, Charmaine Jones and the team from Gospo will release original music in 2025, and in fact this upcoming show will feature some of the new material! Through its innovative approach and unparalleled talent, Gospo continues to celebrate Australian creativity while empowering the next generation of vocal stars.
