HarleQueen is a celebration of the trailblazers of women’s comedy told through the lens of Abby’s personal comedy journey.

After multiple, sellout, award winning seasons in Wellington and Dunedin, HarleQueenis jumping across the ditch and hitting Adelaide, baby!

In her international solo debut, Abby Howells takes to the stage with her hilarious, confessional, story-telling bonanza, directed by the acclaimed Anya Tate-Manning (My Best Dead Friend).

HarleQueen is a celebration of the trailblazers of women’s comedy told through the lens of Abby’s personal comedy journey.

2019 has seen HarleQueen resonate especially with creatives and comedians, who empathised with the ups & downs of Abby’s experiences.

“The response has been so humbling,” says Abby, HarleQueen’s writer, performer and puppeteer.

“I’m just a weirdo doing weird and funny jokes, and people like it! They really feel it. I’ve had so much heartening feedback from people who felt seen and heard by my story, from so many different industries – it’s the shared experience of finding your place in the world you love.”

Abby Howells (Writer/Performer) is an award winning comedian and writer who holds a Masters In Creative Writing from Victoria University’s IIML.

Abby is a founding member of the female comedy collective ‘Discharge’ and served as the troupe’s Head Writer, creating the shows What is this? Women’s Hour?, Benedict Cumberbatch Must Die and the musical 28 Days: A Period Piece, all of which had sell-out seasons at BATS Theatre.

Abby’s first solo show Glocknid: Dwarf Warrior won her the Best Newcomer Award at the 2015 New Zealand International Comedy Festival.
