Award-winning music show History of House returns to Adelaide Fringe in 2023 after a pandemic-induced hiatus, with a three-week season in Gluttony’s brand-new open-air music venue.

History of House, a collaboration between ARIA-nominated DJ Groove Terminator and three-time Grammy-winners Soweto Gospel Choir, is an exhilarating journey through the history of dance music.

In a nutshell: Take the world’s greatest gospel choir who have performed live with stars including Aretha Franklin, Steve Wonder, Bono, Queen and Celine Dion, add in some funky 70s disco, sprinkle in some 80s pop and then strap in to be schooled in house music, from the mid 80s, through the 90s, to the end of the millennium. Behind the decks is Groove Terminator, one of Australia’s biggest DJs, whose legendary career trajectory started in the Adelaide dance scene.

The show was a smash hit at the 2020 Adelaide Fringe in its debut season, taking out the gong for Best Music Show.

“Prepare for music-loving sensory overload,” says Simon Lewicki, also known as DJ Groove Terminator.

“History of House is a dancefloor-exploding celebration of dance music through the decades, reimagined and reignited.”

“It’s been an absolute career highlight creating this show. Working with Soweto Gospel Choir has been a dream.”

“I can’t wait to see audiences experience this show again – either on the dancefloor or taking in the experience from their seats, under the stars.”

Following History of House’s premiere at the 2020 Adelaide Fringe, the show was picked up for tours in Australia, the United States and Europe planned for late 2020 and 2021, but COVID-19 intervened. The show’s most recent outing was at Edinburgh Fringe in 2022.
