Step into a neon-soaked slice of Tokyo and prepare to have your mind well and truly blown. Maho Magic Bar is ready to dazzle once again in 2025, with a new lineup, new tricks, and the same unique, magical flair.
A Fringe favourite since its debut in 2020, this immersive Japanese magic bar has been leaving audiences gobsmacked across the country, racking up rave reviews and a loyal following of repeat visitors. Now, with a fresh squad of world-class conjurers, it’s time for a new round of mischief, mayhem, and mixology.

You can expect dazzling trickery paired with marvellous mixology, in one of the Fringe’s most unique offerings. Be immersed in all the action, with the opportunity to sit front-and-centre for a point-blank sleight of hand spectacle while sipping a cocktail that is to die for. Prefer to sit back and soak it all in? No worries! The intimate table seating means you can participate in the tricks as much or as little as you like without the spotlight on you.
If last year’s run of shows is anything to go by, the folks at Maho Magic Bar know how to treat their guests! A cocktail bar out front of the tent ensures audiences are already sipping on an exquisite cocktail well before they’re welcomed in for the show.

Our copy: While it’s deeply intertwined with cocktail and mocktail mixology, Maho Magic Bar does offer family friendly matinees suitable for ages 6+ on weekend afternoons, while evening shows are suitable for 12+ with parental guidance. Rest assured you can bring the kids along, or if you’re not having a drink it’s absolutely no problem. Everyone is guaranteed a wondrous evening of mixological magic.
The show is brought to life by immersive theatre wizards Broad Encounters, described by Arts Hub as “the leading creator of exciting and thoroughly immersive theatre in Australia right now.”

Among the spellbinding new cast is E.O. Lee, whose Harajuku-inspired magic is as quirky as it is mind-bending. Hokkaido’s own Wandi, known as the ‘Japanese Harry Potter,’ will have objects materialising from thin air.
Ryu, a globally renowned magical inventor, is set to astonish with his original illusions.
Shirayuri, fresh from Japanese national TV, brings never-before-seen magical creations using scent, handcuffs, fruit, and even sliced bread.
And for the ultimate fusion of flair and sorcery, internationally awarded bartender Jun Nakamura will be shaking up cocktails with hands faster than a shooting star.

Enter Maho Magic Bar and find yourself in an intimate, bespoke wonderland where the drinks flow, the laughter is contagious, and the impossible happens right before your eyes. As Broad Encounters Creative Director Kirsten Siddle puts it, “2025 will be our most magical Fringe to date. You couldn’t ask for a better night out in ‘Tokyo’ than at Maho Magic Bar!”
