Josh Staley, renowned Australian comedian, magician, and showman, is set to dazzle the Adelaide Fringe audience with his latest show, Fool Me Once. This flashy magic masterclass is set to stun audiences from March 3rd to March 23rd over a massive 21 shows!
After a highly successful 2024 season, Staley returns to deliver a captivating experience that merges magic with a deep exploration of human perception and emotion. The show will take place in prime position at The Sky Room in The Griffins Hotel nestled in Hindmarsh Square.
Not only is it running for an impressively long season, but Fool Me Once is receiving its world premiere at this year’s Adelaide Fringe. Staley’s new show is billed to be bigger, better, and even more magical.
The show will delve into the method behind the madness, revealing many of the secrets behind classic card tricks and innovative illusions. “One of the most beautiful parts of magic is the method,” Staley explained. “The sleight of hand and ingenious contraptions that make the tricks work are rarely enjoyed by the audience. This show changes that.” His new endeavour is designed to challenge the way audiences perceive and experience the art of illusion.
Can magic still astonish us when we know how the trick works? Staley is confident that it most certainly can! Through showmanship, comedy, and precision, Staley’s Fool Me Once is a compelling invitation to reconsider the essence of being amazed. Like any good magic show, audiences will leave amazed and perplexed, but Fool Me Once peels back the curtain, revealing the raw talent and art in the mechanics of magic.
Critics have consistently praised Staley, with accolades such as “undoubtedly one of Australia’s best magicians.” His latest work proves to be no exception. Having received awards for ‘Best Magic’ and ‘Best Comedy’ in the previous year, Fool Me Once combines moments of sheer astonishment with Staley’s distinctive comedic style and engrossing storytelling, ensuring an unforgettable experience.
Reactions from Staley’s 2024 show Lie to Me, which is also making a comeback to this year’s Fringe, suggest his new show is a must-see. The Melbourne Observer wrote, “It’s hard not to think you might have witnessed real magic,” while The Funny Tonne noted, “This is top drawer magic by anyone’s standard with a healthy serve of laughs on the side.”
With a track record of engaging shows and critical acclaim, Josh Staley’s world premiere of Fool Me Once at the Adelaide Fringe embarks on a journey to redefine magic and entertainment for its audience.
