Fringe News: Housing Fraud And A Con-Man: One Adelaide Comedian’s Story Of London Life

We’ve all lived through the drama and trials of share houses, and everyone has come across a bad house-mate every once in a while… but most of us have nothing on the hilarious story brought back from London by Adelaide’s own Aidan Jones.

We’ve all lived through the drama and trials of share houses, and everyone has come across a bad house-mate every once in a while… but most of us have nothing on the hilarious story brought back from London by Adelaide’s own Aidan Jones.

Settle in for a hilarious and all too true tale about the worst kind of housemate, an actual con-man.

The con-man, Andy, moved in and landed a job at the property agency that let the flat. He started telling new housemates that he was the owner, and was able to fraudulently collect rent off of them for months while telling the agency the property was empty. Aidan was the only one aware of what Andy was doing, and he published a weekly blog to hundreds of followers detailing the escalating mayhem that stemmed from Andy’s fraud, including his arrest and eventual disappearance.

When Andy disappeared for good in January 2016, one of the housemates lost £1000. Aidan turned
his blog into an hour of stand up and performed it in London to a sold-out crowd, raising £400 to
give to the biggest victim of Andy’s fraud.

He is now bringing that story and some more tidbits about the trail of destruction and life to the 2018 Adelaide Fringe.

You can catch The Abersham Flat at The Nook at The Producers from 3-18 March. Tickets are $15 and available here.
