Le Gateau Chocolat and Jonny Woo are back, and boy have they been missed. After a two-year absence, thanks to that ongoing pandemic, these two fine performers have returned to the Adelaide Fringe with their new installment of A Night At The Musicals.

For anyone who hasn’t seen these two sensational drag queens before, you really have been missing out. Sensational vocals, extraordinary wigs and costumes and bucketloads of humour, Le Gateau Chocolat and Jonny Woo have it all. A Night At The Musicals perfectly combines all you love from musicals, drag shows and comedy. Don’t go in expecting exact replicas of your favourite musical numbers. Le Gateau Chocolat and Jonny Woo add their own unique stamp to a vast array of musical numbers that leave you laughing out loud while marveling at their exquisite vocals. All That Jazz with huge white Mickey Mouse style gloves? Part Of Your World with bubble machines and an interruption by Jaws? The Lion King meets Cats? There is nothing this show won’t stop at.

Jonny Woo’s rock voice cuts through and quickly has the crowd clapping and singing along to numbers such as Sweet Transvestite, and had the whole house up dancing along to the Time Warp. Woo has a great powerhouse belt.

Le Gateau Chocolat’s voice is exquisite. It is liquid gold and his vocal tone warms you like a giant hug. His rendition of Part Of Your World was spine tingling, but the biggest highlight of the evening was Le Gateau Chocolat’s powerful and moving tribute to Olivia Newton-John. Performed in stillness with stunning back-lighting, Le Gateau Chocolat’s version of Hopelessly Devoted To You was out of this world. Powerful and moving don’t even come close to describing this performance.

Jonny Woo and Le Gateau Chocolat are two sensational performers who will no doubt be back at future Fringes. Do yourselves a favour and make sure they are on your Fringe list.
