The group Double Feature gave us an exuberant celebration of the characters, songs and music created by Richard O’Brien. Most of the audience were obviously familiar with the Rocky Horror Picture Show movie or stage show and were word perfect in the dialogue from the film clips plus adding their own comments – especially each time Brad and Janet were mentioned.

Audience members were given a bag of goodies including: newspaper to shelter from the rain (water guns); a party whistle to get into the party spirit; a cheat sheet for the Time Warp; a feather and a rose for dressing up; and a lollipop to recharge one’s energy at intermission.

The group maintained a high energy level throughout the performance and I enjoyed the costume changes mirroring those in the film clips. I had a fun evening of dancing and singing along to the songs but I did wonder why the lighting was so bright during the number There’s A Light (Over At The Frankenstein Place). It made the request to use the torch app on our phones somewhat pointless and it spoiled the atmosphere of the song, my favourite in the movie.

I am aware of the difficulties in finding a suitable Fringe venue but feel this show would have greatly benefited from a larger space where the performers could have made more of dancing through and with the audience and audience members too had more space to get up and dance.

Nonetheless, a great time was had by all!
