Put together by Alan Hendry from the participants of an “Act Your Age” workshop, this collection of short scenes is aimed at breaking down the ageist stereo-types. The scenes are separated by music provided by an a acpella group called “The Inbetweens” which consists of Kerry Reid, Paula Ashforth, Graham Ross, Majella O’Sullivan and Nicki Somerville.

The first scene about a homeless elderly woman, Flo Hemmings, “Finding a voice” showed the help necessary to allow someone to ask for help. “Ash for Cash” with Alice Richardson and Cynthia Lear playing a couple of con-women extracting cash from gullible passersby, demonstrated the fact that age does not always dull the wits.

The third scene “Drawn in”, featuring Liz Windson, Lyn Howard and Cynthia Lear, shows a woman doing battle with her inner voices as she tries to make sense of this thing called aging. “Let’s be Bold” is the final scene and examines the ritual of dating in the modern world and how seniors cope, or don’t. This had Rose Johnson and Charles McNutty taking the challenge of on line dating with an interesting end.

The whole production was fun with none of the actors under 70 (in fact a couple were well over 80) and maybe will expose some of those prejudices that people don’t know they have!
