We’ve all been there. Quite literally ALL been there. Been at a loss, at some point or other, in the often absurd and completely befuddling world of dating, and turned to the one thing that always has the answers…Google. Surely questions like ‘how to get the guy (or girl)’ have been entered into a search engine so often it is a wonder it hasn’t broken the internet. Add to that, the charming naiveté of a young Islamic woman venturing out in the world and you have a tale that will have you enthralled from the moment you walk in the door.

Located in the beautifully reminiscent and intimate setting at La Boheme, Experience and the Girl weaves an intricate narrative of a young woman discovering the world around her, which just so happens to include boys and other such temping morsels. What unfolds is a truly relatable scenario in which competing priorities and values conflict, pulling The Girl in all manner of directions: her previously sheltered view of the world versus one that is ever expanding; family expectations and values versus a love of the arts; and a personal religious connection versus a burgeoning sexuality. And what do you do when you don’t have the answer? Google it of course. The results of which, when that advice is put into practice, can and often are hilariously awkward. No wonder flirting is such an odd business and we women are such ‘mysteries’.

Combining physical theatre and comedy with a highly interactive show, the sixty minute duration seems to fly by. All the while you’re thinking “I’ve done that” or “That has happened to me”, that is between the fits of laughter anyway. Randa Sayed absolutely captures the often erratic and completely subjective nature of the female psyche.
