Fringe Review: Half Hour Hamlet

It helps to be familiar with the Bard’s version of Hamlet, so you can keep up and not lose track of who is who. However that’s half the fun!

It helps to be familiar with the Bard’s version of this so you can keep up and not lose track of who is who. However that’s half the fun! Patrick Hercamp has visited Adelaide before as part of the “Sound and Fury” group, but this time he is solo and barely pauses for breath.

Many laughs are garnered as this player wends his way through the tale, sprinkled with the audience participation that he encourages with his instructions at the beginning. He mostly stays true to the story, always giving it his own twist, and has an almost full cast involved and kills them off with alacrity.

Anyone who has had difficulty following the final scene (where they all die except Horatio) should listen to Hercamp tell it – he makes it easy.

Go see it – it’s a fun half hour, but not for the player, he works hard at making you laugh at a tragedy!
