Fringe Review: Jackson Vs Jackson

Any fan of the Jackson catalogue of music, Michael, Janet or The Jackson Five, would find something to love in this collection of songs presented by The Gospo Collective.

A great way to enjoy the Jackson music and great chorus work.

Any fan of the Jackson catalogue of music, Michael, Janet or The Jackson Five, would find something to love in this collection of songs presented by The Gospo Collective. The whole show is well presented and the carefully choreographed movements of the choir and soloists out front give a polished look to the whole production.

The choice of an open-air venue is questionable; the sound is not as crisp and sometimes interrupted by other venues close by. For a large portion of the audience the early parts of the show were affected by the sunny weather we were enjoying, either by sun in your eyes or less effect from the stage lighting.

All the favourite tunes were there and the black and white costuming was appropriate, including the single white glove on all the chorus. As always, the soloists were very good all lead by Charmaine Jones, who is responsible for the foundation and the continuing success of the group. Highlighted in the Janet Jackson segment Amy Hein, Ellen Walsh, Chloe Wilczek, Laura Knowling and Joanna Arul Tropeano delivered solos in songs such as Together Again, All For You, Escapade, Control and Miss You Much. Kelvin Maynes did a great job of Man In The Mirror, whilst Lindsay Prodea showed his talent in She’s Out Of My Life and Brandon Bartholomeusz starred in If and gave us beatbox on They Really Don’t Care About Us. Their talents combined beautifully with Jones on the final song, Never Can Say Goodbye. The performers were all of a high standard and the music moved smoothly from one song to another.

If this is your type of music there are many performances you can enjoy.
