Michelle Pearson is a consummate performer and a great cook so naturally she has combined these skills to great effect. Her shows have graced previous Fringes and taken her to Edinburgh with much success and invitations to do more. Comfort Food Cabaret was the original show, and this is the follow up, concentrating on desserts, sugar and spice.

This production is not just about cooking, or her fabulous voice. Michelle uses the discussion to uncover her thoughts on social pressures, empowerment, what we really want and how we feel about our body image. Michelle is seen as very successful, a talented singer, cook, caterer and an event manager, but she is also a wife and mother, a tricky balancing act. Admitting that she doesn’t think she is coping allows her to open up to us. The discussion was revealing and thought provoking.

The songs were, as always, great and the cooking lesson amusing. Backed by her group of fine musicians, Tom Kneebone on guitar, Michael Ciarmella on bass, Aaron Nash on keyboard, Jess Bigg with backing vocals and Kyrie Anderson (her musical director) on drums, Michelle made everyone feel at home even though the venue was not ideal. With her trusty helpers in the kitchen (Rhiannon Groutsch and Stacey Quinn) she produced some tasty desserts and some sweet wisdom.
