Fringe Review: Kids Comedy Gala

The popular Kids Comedy Gala showcases a good variety of family-friendly Fringe acts, from a juggling host to stand-up comedy for kids.

At an hour long, four acts get a decent look-in, introduced by host Daniel. There’s plenty of audience interaction and participation with the under-10s being particularly entertained. That’s not to say there aren’t plenty of laughs for the adults too.

Mr Snot-Bottom returns with snippets of his Stinky Silly Show. Comedian, Mark Trenwith, has found great success as this disgusting, overgrown kid hellbent on talking of farts, boogers and bums. The kids lap his up routine while the parents chuckle and moan at the inevitable conversations that will happen in the car ride home.

Magic Brian brings a few good surprises to his comedy magic act involving a blindfolded card trick and six Spanish Linking Rings. The awesome Abandoman (Rob Broderick) equally wows as he creates rap songs on the fly based on audience responses.

Melbourne’s Pants Down Circus close with daredevil acrobat feats on the limited stage space.

The selection of acts is good, but the performers may vary between shows. Highly entertaining, despite the lack of air conditioning.
