La Bomba presents its new Fringe show La Vida Es Un Carnaval for Fringe 2022. This Latin Cabaret introduces an authentic and vibrant Carnaval experience that celebrates the beauty of Latin American and Brazilian dance and music.

The show is a cultural glimpse into countries like Brazil, Colombia and Cuba, with the Queen of Salsa’s discography, Celia Cruz, providing the soundtrack for the evening – She’s proving that life should be a Carnaval!

Playing host was the Casa Culturel in Findon, where the line was wrapped around the corner. Some of the most beautiful people you have ever seen greeted you at the door who were also dance members that were a part of show.  It was as if you were transported to the streets of Rio de Janeiro with their vibrant costumes and palpable energy. As soon as you stepped into the venue excitement and anticipation swelled.

The show started with an announcement detailing the shows content and run time. The announcer described the show as a trip to Carnaval. When the music started, so too did the chorus of beautifully feathered and jewelled performers who come dancing to the stage.

The performers were generous in deminer, always making you feel like you can participate at any time even if you have two left feet.

This all-ages event talked you through each song and its significance to a particular Latin American or Brazilian country. The dances that accompanied the songs were an eclectic mix of dance styles from salsa to merengue.

At one point they even pluck patrons from the crowd to follow a routine up on stage, under the guise of getting a free drink. That’s what I call a win-win scenario.

The show was a true celebration with an abashed sense of joy. Not only were you moved by the performers truly loving what they’re creating, but also the crowd themselves.

After the official show was concluded, an after party ensued taking us into the early hours of the next day. Even if you don’t culturally identify with the show and its performers, as an audience member, you feel confident enough to take a dancer’s hand when it is extended.

You feel safe knowing that if dancing isn’t your strong suit, people will still cheer seeing that you’re trying and celebrating in the same way they are.

The performance showcased an immersive experience with an incredibly talented cast of performers who made this show unforgettable.

If you are upset that you couldn’t make it to the show, check out Barrio Beats Latin Festival this Sunday. Where La Bomba will be hosting dance workshops, offering musical entertainment along with market stalls and food trucks being provided.
