Presented by Ensalada, the Union and Colour Cosmetico

Adelaide’s newest Fringe venue is Ensalada, the Union, just off the corner of Rymill Park at the end of Rundle Street. There are many ticketed shows at this venue, but there is also wide a range of free entertainment being presented in the garden section. The late night show on this occasion featured Sasha Michalitsianos, whose Fringe show, Sasha and the Afterglow, is a ticketed show there. After her set, the stage was given over to any of the other performers who have shows there, including Rebecca Ireland, Alex McCleod, Cassie Rose, Belle Benét, and Miss Renee Simone.
Sasha Michalitsianos accompanies herself on either guitar or keyboards as her expressive voice captivates her audience with a blend of jazz, blues, and contemporary stylistic influences. Her selection of songs is wide ranging and, although she mostly sings her own compositions, she also gives her own interpretation to some well-known numbers from the jazz and blues repertoires. Her CD, My Earth, contains a very slow and moving version of Billie Holiday’s plaintive song, God Bless the Child, and a very sultry version of Rodgers’s and Hart’s 1934 hit that has long been a jazz standard, Blue Moon. Try to catch her show.
Make a day of it. This is a fine spot to relax over a drink and a meal while catching some of the free entertainment. Then head in to enjoy some of the ticketed shows, before pulling up a chair for the late show.
