Leather Lungs returns to Adelaide with their award winning, solo show Yas Queen, a celebration of growth and gain.

Jason Chasland is Leather Lungs, a flamboyant cabaret artist with terrific vocals and a tenderness in their tales, and the show Yas Queen is produced by Ben Anderson. The overall show is about empowerment with song choices to match, including hits from icons such as Prince, Queen and Aretha.

The show kicks off with all the pent up excitement of a stage performer who has been in lockdowns, hasn’t performed for a year and just completed the eight hour drive from Melbourne to Adelaide. The energy makes the opening parts of the cabaret narrative upbeat and joyful while covering topics of a new boyfriend, getting through lockdowns and finding an appreciation for aspects of their lives.

The story ebbs and flows, with the upbeat and fun pace shifting into newfound love and all the hardships that occurred prior to that. It sinks into darker moments that Leather Lungs eases the audience into with the control and power of their voice. The deliberate exclusions of the fun, little interjections and changes that pop up in the earlier sections provide for almost blissful moments where the clout of the performance can momentarily linger.

Leather Lungs has stunning vocals and brilliant, commanding and camp on stage charm. Yas Queen is an excellent show backed by incredible talent with recognisable songs used in a manner to entertain while still infusing emotion and humour.
