I floundered through the busy crowds towards the calmness at the rear of Rymill Park, leaves were hustling in the wind, skies were a piercing blue and the warm rays shone through the trees – the perfect peacefulness following an afternoon of food and loud music.

The tranquil setting was greeted by an array of fantastical, creative and spontaneous humans, down from NSW to showcase their artistic ways to get around both on land and water. They shared their thought-provoking stories and captured the attention of their audience.

Children hovered around the flamboyant mermaid in his bubble bath, listened curiously to his original stories and stroked his glittery mer-ducks (mermaid ducks) whilst bubbles floated in the air.

Most children just stared at the original characters, while others joined in the activities, touching and admiring the jewels collected from their natural habitat.

The mermaids’ creativity and extravagant props made from old bikes and recycled junk amazed crowds and led to inspiring conversations with the interested adults that had been dragged along by their curious children.

A mixture of flair, soft voices and lots of sparkles, this cleverly thought-out assortment of creatures will give you a sense of serenity. It’s entirely your choice how you wish to experience the unique atmosphere down by the lake.

Catch the mermaids in their natural habitat this weekend for you miss out!
