No prerequisites of your astrologer’s chart required—the Oracle takes us down a bewildering rabbit hole of each star sign origins. Producers, Bass Fam Creative have composed a masterpiece laced with mythology, prophecies and fables of creatures that we know today as ‘legends’—in Oracle we witness a place that allows these tales a space to run wild and free.

The mythologies taken from the early ages of both Greek and Egyptian tales have been adapted through a fashion of erotic burlesque performances, seat-clutching circus acts, entrancing and insightful storytelling, dance of aerial and acrobatic nature, and live music pieces.

Our narrator, Oracle, engages us through her supernatural sounding vocals, her nymph-like appearance and her sultry yet commanding disposition. As we venture into the configuration of this ethereal world occupied by gods and goddesses, heroes and adversaries, we revel in its beauty filled with romance, desire, vengeance and gallantry.

The sublime choreography of this show unfolds against a backdrop of Greek ruins—depicted by ancient columns and a temple decorated stage. The injection of exotic archaic outfits is used to accentuate the realism of this Grecian theme. The rawness of this set was beautifully demonstrated.

Adjacent an eerie and mystical oration of the zodiac stories were modern pop hits, remixes, ballads, dance music and recorded tracks that complemented the core storyline. In combination was the use of soft and hard light effects harmonised with the changing nuances of the tale which intensified the emotion of each scene.

The animated and clearly amused cast completely submerged themselves into their born-to-play characters with a formidable and bold sense of vivacity. The cast spares no one of its brilliance; especially, Jazmin Varlet, who steals the show in her hauntingly beautiful role, as the Oracle.

Oracle it not only immersive and actively entertaining, but it also enables its audience to be transcended beyond the realms of what we know, it invites the imagination to new heights of liveliness. A tasteful depiction of fine extravaganza and raunchy routines—this show should not be missed.

Oracle is in now showing in Gluttony until March 20.
