Fringe Review: Paul Dabek – Look At Me!

Paul Dabek is probably the best magician at this year’s Fringe. He is as highly polished as his black patent leather shoes, slick and fast with his patter, likeable and very, very funny.

Paul Dabek is probably the best magician one is likely to see at this year’s Fringe. He is as highly polished as his black patent leather shoes, slick and fast with his patter, likeable and very, very funny.

Dabek has the gift of the gab and extremely deft sleight of hands. He never stops moving, which is a skill that highly experienced magicians have – if they are too slow, you might just see or work out how they do it.

If you are a fan of magicians and illusionists, you may have seen some of the tricks performed before, but not with the flair and panache that Dabek carries them out with. There are cards (of course), ropes, dice, paper, handkerchiefs and even the odd loaf of bread involved and all skillfully manipulated by Dabek.

Look At Me certainly makes one look at Dabek, and yet you still can’t work out how he does it.

This is a highly entertaining hour. Put quite simply, Dabek IS Da Best!!
