Two professors deliver an action packed lecture in The Alphabet of Awesome Science. Hosts Lexi Con and Noel Edge use a combination of “dad jokes” style humour, eye-catching experiments, and a palpable joy of learning to engage with the audience. Designed for primary school age children, younger siblings will also enjoy the spectacles.
Lexi Con defines twenty-six of her favourite obscure words, traveling through the alphabet, as Noel Edge arranges a corresponding experiment to astound the crowd. The connections between the words and experiments are often rather tenuous, though thankfully no one seems to mind.
Many of the experiments are simple yet flashy in order to captivate young viewers without overwhelming them. Noel Edge’s explanations are concise yet accurate. The displays include: exploding balloons, smoke rings, a fire tornado, and a whirly tube demonstration. Some can even be replicated at home, now the young audience understand the science (all real effects, no stage magic here.) However, children will have to watch closely to keep up, due to the fast paced premise of a new word and experiment every two minutes.
