We are facing a rubbish crisis. Australia is one of the worst countries when it comes to producing waste that ends up in landfill. Better education is needed to help us at a home level to reduce our landfill waste, and increase our recycling and green waste knowledge.
Enter stage right: The Trash Can Man, aka Trashy, aka David Lampard.
This Show Is Not Rubbish! is far from being rubbish. In fact, it’s an hour packed with experiments involving trash, information on how to reduce household waste, interesting facts regarding waste and, like all good science shows, ends with an explosion.
David Lampard has crafted a well-researched and executed show. The content and information within the show is delivered at multiple levels – there is something in this show for the young and old, and Lampard weaves his narrative between the experiments with ease.
The show moves at a good pace, not too fast to lose people with the facts being delivered, but also not so slow as to lose the younger members of the audience.
The experiments chosen for this show were well received by the audience – especially those including water! I do however question how a few of them related back to the main theme of the show: rubbish and how we can do our part to reduce waste.
I think this show can be best summed up by my four-year-old daughter, who was talking about the show all the way home. “I really liked that show. It was awesome! Let’s go there again!”
