FRINGE: Shake It brings after-dark glamour, burlesque, and sexy circus to Gluttony

A cheeky, adults-only favourite is back at Adelaide Fringe, with Shake It returning to The Virago at Gluttony, bringing burlesque, circus, comedy and late-night fun.

A glittering, adults-only favourite is back at Adelaide Fringe, with Shake It returning to The Virago at Gluttony in 2026. Known for its slick production values, cheeky humour and high-energy performances, the late-night variety show once again brings glamour, burlesque and unapologetic fun to the festival’s after-dark lineup.

Hosted by cabaret favourite Minnie Andrews, Shake It is a fast-paced celebration where classic tease meets bold, contemporary performance. The show blends burlesque with comedy, character work and circus-style acts, for a playful, polished experience designed for audiences looking to sit back, laugh loudly and lean into exactly what Fringe is all about.

“What makes Shake It stand out is its sense of joy,” Andrews says. “It’s slick, cheeky, and inclusive, but it doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s driven by personality as much as by polish, and while it’s a fast-paced night that feels fresh and accessible, it still honours the roots of the art form.”

That balance has helped Shake It build a loyal following at Adelaide Fringe, where it has consistently drawn strong audiences and glowing feedback. Andrews says the show often attracts a mix of seasoned burlesque fans and first-timers, many of whom return year after year or bring friends along for their first taste of the genre.

“People often tell us how fun, vibrant, and uplifting the show is,” she says. “A lot of people come back every year, or they bring someone who’s never seen burlesque before and wants to experience it in a really welcoming, entertaining way.”

Set inside The Virago at Gluttony, the show leans into the venue’s intimate, after-dark energy. Andrews believes that atmosphere, combined with the show’s tight pacing and variety format, is a big part of its ongoing success.

“It’s a polished, high-quality production that also feels spontaneous and alive,” she says. “That’s exactly what Fringe audiences are looking for.”

For 2026, Shake It returns bigger, bolder and bursting with new energy. Audiences can expect fresh acts, new performers and updated routines, alongside the signature vibe that’s given the show its popularity. Big personalities, striking costumes and crowd-pleasing moments remain at the heart of the show, with each night offering something a little different.

“Bringing Shake It back in 2026 feels like coming home,” Andrews says. “Adelaide has been my happy place for so long. Adelaide Fringe is where the show really thrives, and there’s something magical about sharing that space with both returning fans and brand-new audiences. Each year gives us a chance to evolve, surprise and keep the show feeling alive, and this year is no exception.”

Shake It runs from Thursday 19 February to Sunday 22 March 2026 at The Virago, Gluttony, in Murlawirrapurka/Rymill Park, with start times between 8pm and 9:30pm varying by day.
