From ICU nurse to design success story local stylist crowned Business Person of the Year

From Royal Adelaide Hospital ICU nurse to award-winning stylist, Kiran is proof that courage, creativity and persistence can change everything.

For more than a decade, Kiran Hanjrah worked in the high-pressure world of intensive care nursing at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. Surrounded by beeping monitors and life-or-death moments, she learned the value of calm under pressure, empathy, and precision. It’s these qualities that have shaped the next chapter of her life.

“I loved nursing, but there was always this creative side of me that wanted to come out,” she says.

“I really enjoy spending hours rearranging spaces, styling corners, and finding beauty in little things that I would pair together to add character to a living space,” she said.

That decision changed everything. Swapping scrubs for styling boards, Kiran launched Studio7 Stylings in 2019. A bold leap into a completely different world.

What began as a passion project quickly grew into a full-scale business, helping homeowners and real estate agents transform properties across South Australia.

Six years later, her instinct to follow that creative spark has paid off. Kiran has styled more than a thousand homes, built a thriving team, and most recently, was crowned Business Person of the Year at the 2025 Local Business Awards.

When Kiran heard her name announced at the 2025 Local Business Awards, she almost didn’t believe it.

“It was a complete shock. There were so many amazing businesses in the room, from florists and builders to cafes and clinics. I never imagined they’d pick me,” she said.

“I started this business with no background in design,” she says.

“Everything I know, I learned while doing it and running my business. I learned through mistakes, experiments, and a lot of persistence.”

Persistence and resilience are words that keep coming up when she talks about her success.

“People give up too quickly,” she says.

“At the first sign of something not working, they stop. But you have to give yourself time. If you keep showing up and refining what you do, the results will come.”

That tenacity has paid off.

Her growing profile hasn’t changed her focus. If anything, it’s strengthened her commitment to giving back to people finding their feet in business.

“Trust your instincts,” she says.

“You need to love what you do, because if you love it, you won’t give up.”

As a proud Punjabi woman now based in Adelaide, Kiran understands the challenges faced by many migrants starting from scratch.

“It can be hard when you didn’t grow up here,” she admits.

“But Australia is such a multicultural place. There’s a lot of support if you look for it. No one should feel like they can’t achieve the same things as anyone else.”

Fresh off her win as Business Person of the Year, Kiran is ready for the next chapter.

“I want to grow my team and take the business further,” she says.

“But what matters most to me is showing others that passion and persistence really can change everything.”
