The January long weekend is shaping up to be one of the most exciting times to visit the Kilikanoon Wines cellar door, with the Clare Valley producer transforming the holiday into a two-day celebration of wine, music and discovery.
Held in the heart of the Clare Valley, Kilikanoon’s Ultimate Long Weekend pairs two very different events across Sunday and Monday, giving visitors a reason to slow down one day and dive into something unexpected the next.
“It’s really about giving people two very different, but equally enjoyable reasons to visit,” says Emilie from the Kilikanoon team. “Summer Session is relaxed, social and all about settling in and enjoying the day, while the Warehouse Sale brings a bit of buzz and excitement. People love the thrill of discovering something special.”
Sunday 25 January sees the return of Summer Session at the cellar door, running from 11am to 5pm. The winery’s award-winning cellar door garden will come alive with live music from Joel Lyon, comfort food from Cheesy Street, face painting for kids (and adults), and special offers available on the day. With plenty of open space, it’s designed as an all-ages, no-pressure way to spend a summer afternoon, with furry friends also welcome.
“From the moment people arrive, it’s about switching off and enjoying themselves,” Emilie says.
The atmosphere is intentionally easygoing and invites everyone to join. “The vibe is easy, friendly and inclusive, whether you’re coming with friends, family or just dropping in, it’s the kind of day that naturally unfolds without any pressure or rushing,” she says. “Our Cellar Door garden is such a special place and safe for children and dogs so everyone truly can relax for the day.”
On Monday 26 January, from 10am to 2pm, the focus shifts to Kilikanoon’s Annual Winery Warehouse Sale, the biggest sale of the year and a highlight for wine lovers across the state. The event has built a cult following for its mix of value, variety and surprise.
“The Warehouse Sale is always full of surprises; and that’s half the fun,” Emilie explains. “People can expect a mix of back vintages, limited releases, museum wines and exclusive parcels that don’t usually make it to the cellar door.”
For those chasing rare or limited bottles, timing matters. “If you’re keen on something rare, getting in early definitely helps, as some of those special wines tend to disappear quickly,” she says. Wine tastings will be available so visitors can try before they buy, alongside a popular Lucky Dip at checkout.
“The more you buy, the more chances you have of scoring some amazing wine on us,” Emilie adds. “It’s the perfect last stop for those heading home on the Monday.”
The Warehouse Sale has grown rapidly since its launch, something Kilikanoon Managing Director Travis Fuller says reflects the strong community connection around the winery.
“When we hosted our first Warehouse Sale back in 2023, we were blown away by the response. It’s now become a highlight on our calendar, a chance to celebrate with our community, offer incredible value, and share wines people genuinely love. Every year the crowd grows, and the day just gets better,” he said.
Together, the two events make the long weekend feel complete. “One day to unwind and soak up the atmosphere, and another to dive into something fun, unexpected and uniquely Kilikanoon with the added bonus of buying wine at excellent prices,” Emilie says. “It’s relaxed, fun, and very much what summer in the Clare Valley is all about.”
