Fry’s Fringe Show Proves It Gets Better

For those who have ever seen YouTube clips supporting the ‘It Gets Better’ movement, campaigning against youth suicide resulting from homophobia, UK performer Richard Fry has something special in store. His latest Fringe show ‘The Ballad of the Unbeatable Hearts’, investigates one man’s horror story that turns into triumph and the invention of a worldwide movement preventing homophobia-incited suicide. ‘The Ballad of the Unbeatable Hearts’ is presented at Higher Ground on Light Square between February 24th and March 18th.

‘The show reaches out to everyone really, because at that time in our lives we are all exposed to insecurity or discrimination if not all-out harrassment’ says Fry.

‘Beneath the main story it focuses on the importance of life and why everyone should make the most of the opportunities presented to them.

Fry’s own ‘Unbeatable Hearts’ movement will be launched with his show.

‘Young gay suicide is an issue close to my heart, and close to more and more people the world over. But if you want to know the full story about The Unbeatable Hearts, you’ll have to ask me after the show!’

Fry is a true Adelaide favourite, having performed his spectacular and emotive ‘tour de verses’ at the Adelaide Fringe Festival for two years now, his prior shows ‘Bully’ and ‘Smiler’ receiving much critical acclaim.

The show coincides well with the recent launch of an Australian headquarters for the ‘It Gets Better’ organisation in Perth where Fry will perform the show prior to the Adelaide Fringe Festival as part of their ‘Fringe World’.

Tickets for ‘The Ballad of the Unbeatable Hearts’ and the other ten shows in the Centre for International Theatre showcase are available via FringeTix or citadelaide.com.
