Plans to bring a skatepark and taproom have been included in the illustrious tourist resort proposed for Aldinga to accompany the surf academy.
Currently proposed as “The Break” along Tuit Road , the surf park with a wave pool fit for up to 70 surfers at one time as well as accommodation, a retail store which would allow keen surfers to rent boards and wetsuits, a cafe turned outdoor bar as well as a wellness studio. The wave pool will be capable of generating 2.1m high waves up to every 12 seconds, a true haven for any keen surfer.
A spokesperson for the City of Onkaparinga said assessment is currently before an independent panel, due to the the subject sites location falling within the long standing Tourism Development Zone, the proposal does not need to use a the public notification route, as a part of its development process.
“The proposed facility includes a wave-making pool that’s capable of generating simulated waves suitable for surfing, and approximately 45 accommodation units,” said the spokesperson.
The application will be determined by the independent Council Assessment Panel (CAP) at a meeting later in the year. Residents will be able to attend the meeting to observe the panel’s discussion and deliberation, but not participate.
The wave pool will be an exciting and welcomed feature to SA after two notable surf park operators, URBNSURF and Monument Wave Parks approached the state government last year, expressing their keen interest in making an Adelaide location come to life.
