Gelato Messina Is Returning To Adelaide So The Best Time Of Year Just Got Better

The much-loved Australian gelato brand will feature in ‘The Yard’, a festival pop-up in Gawler Place, along with Archie Rose Distilling Co and Hoy Pinoy.

After a brief yet immensely successful foray into the Adelaide market for Vogue Festival, Gelato Messina is returning.

The much-loved Australian gelato brand will feature in ‘The Yard’, a pop-up in Gawler Place helmed by Rundle Mall and Adelaide Festival.

In true Gelato Messina style, a limited range has been created especially for The Yard, including a gelato take on the famous South Australian ‘Frog Cake’, featuring salted caramel gelato, honeycomb chunks and whipped cream, a fairy bread flavoured gelato covered in white chocolate and sprinkles, and a made-to-order Kitchener bun filled with vanilla gelato and raspberry puree.

“Adelaide gave us such a fantastic welcome at the 2019 Vogue Festival, and we keep hearing how incredible Adelaide is during festival season, so we just had to come back,” says Gelato Messina founder Nick Palumbo.

Palumbo originally hails from Adelaide, having moved to Sydney to follow his dream of opening a gelato store. With Gelato Messina now occupying 19 stores across Australia, it’s probably safe to say he succeeded.

The Yard will also feature Archie Rose Distilling Co, on hand with a selection of one-off and classic cocktails. Inspired by Gelato Messina, a range of house-made spiders will also be on offer.

The drinks menu also includes wines from D’Arenberg Wines, beer from Coopers and cider by Pressman’s as well as spider mocktails for kids.

Hoy Pinoy will be The Yard’s go-to for savoury food, with a menu including Inihaw Na Manok (barbequed chicken skewers in a traditional soy glaze), Sisig burritos (a traditional Filipino dish given a burrito twist) and Lechon kawali (a rice bowl with slow braised, crispy fried pork belly, and chilli).

On Friday nights, The Yard will welcome Festival Fridays, with DJs, weekly special cocktails, and food.

“The Yard provides the perfect point where festival-goers, shoppers and visitors alike can take time out with friends and family over a gelato, or a pre or post-show drink or meal,” says Rundle Mall General Manager Johanna Williams.

The Yard opening times:

Wednesday 26 February – Sunday 15 March 2020
Wednesday – Saturday lunch & dinner from 11:30am to late
Sundays from 11:30am – 3pm (The Yard will also be open Monday 9 March 11am – 3pm for Adelaide Cup Day)
